“We closed the last edition speaking of conflicts and suburbs- reminds Giovanna Taviani – We still had the broken and interrupted images of the war in Syria, when the Syrian conflict has become unsustainable and from the European Parliament in Brussels, where the Salinadocfest was hosted last November with a Syrian love story, has called to Europe for a solution to the conflict in the Middle East. On the same days at the Bataclan in Paris dozens of young died in a nightclub, and a few months later, in the heart of Brussels, other young people, lost in the desert of Western prosperity, made other choices and opted for the road of hate. It is at that point that our imagination has had enough and has triggered the emergency brake of Benjamin’s memory, then as now, is acting in the important moments of the history train. If cinema and literature have the prophetic power to anticipate the future, let’s flip the horizon with the strength of the documentary, and to postulate, behind the chain of ruin and destruction, a different scenario. So then is the theme Madre Mediterraneo/L’Altro Mediterraneo, indicating a new utopian thinking, crazy and antagonist, who says other and refers to something else, as in the island of Utopia of Thomas More, of which today, together with the ‘ Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, we celebrate the five hundredth anniversary. We can no longer stand by and watch. We must be witness.”
